Man, I've been dealing with this really strange steering problem on my 2015 Sierra for months now where the steering would feel completely fine at low speeds but once I got up to highway speeds, it would develop this vague, floaty feeling like the truck was wandering all over the lane and I constantly had to make tiny corrections to keep it straight. It was honestly exhausting to drive on long trips and I was starting to worry it might be something serious with the steering rack or the power steering system, which would have been a nightmare to fix. I took it to a couple of alignment shops and they both told me the alignment was fine and couldn't find anything wrong, which was frustrating because clearly something wasn't right even if they couldn't figure it out. A friend who works as a mechanic suggested I check out alzaabiautocare.com/brands/gmc/ because he said they deal with these trucks all the time and might have seen this issue before. Turns out it was a worn intermediate steering shaft that was causing all that play in the steering at higher speeds, and they replaced it and did a proper inspection of the whole steering system while they were at it. The difference is night and day, my truck feels solid and planted on the highway now and I actually enjoy driving it again instead of dreading every long trip. I'm so relieved it wasn't anything more serious and honestly I wish I'd just taken it to a proper specialist from the start instead of wasting time and money at places that clearly didn't know what they were looking for. If anyone else is experiencing that weird wandering feeling on their Sierra or Silverado, definitely get that intermediate shaft checked because it seems to be a common issue on these trucks that a lot of general shops seem to miss.
