I noticed this yellowish-brown stain on my kitchen ceiling about two weeks ago and I told myself it was probably just some old water damage that had been there forever and I'd never noticed it before. But yesterday I looked up and it's definitely gotten bigger, and now there's a slight bubbling in the paint that wasn't there before, which I know is a really bad sign. The bathroom is directly above the kitchen, so I'm pretty sure there's a leak somewhere in the plumbing up there, maybe around the toilet or the shower pan, and I have no idea how long it's been going on or how much damage is already done behind the walls. I've been calling anyone because I'm honestly terrified of what they're going to find and how much it's going to cost me, but I know the longer I wait, the worse it's going to get and the more expensive it'll be to fix. I've already started clearing out the cabinets underneath just in case water starts coming through, and I'm using towels to catch any drips, but this is clearly beyond what I can handle on my own. I need to get someone out here to figure out where the leak is coming from and stop it before it causes even more damage to my floors and walls. I've been looking for someone who specializes in leaking pipe repair in Palo Alto because I want a local pro who can get here quickly and knows how to handle these situations without making a bigger mess. Has anyone else dealt with a ceiling stain that turned out to be a plumbing leak? How bad was the damage and how long did it take to get everything fixed? I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for the worst but hoping for the best.
